The owners of King’s Hwy Brew & Q have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into building their new business. Making many sacrifices along the way has led them to this day, the day when they were able to open their new restaurant. Their hard work is obvious by the quality of delicious food they offer patrons.

This couple has even learned how to incorporate family time into building a successful restaurant. They admit creating family movie night at the restaurant in order to spend time with their children while building their business. Their children seem to enjoy the time they spend at the restaurant with their parents. They understand the importance of having them around as often as possible while they are young.

The owner’s, Emilio and Christi are not newcomers to the restaurant scene. They both worked at Red Lobster when they were younger. Emilio found himself working at Sandbar, The Cove and eventually wound up working at a barbecue restaurant where he eventually became the pit master. It appears that he really enjoyed what he could do on the barbecue pit and after leaving his employment at the barbecue restaurant, he went on to open a food truck, offering, what else; barbecue!

Eventually outgrowing the food truck, Emilio opened King’s Hwy Brew & Q in a refurbished historic home in Five Points. The smell of meat permeates the entire neighborhood. Giving those looking for a dining option, a reason to visit King’s Hwy.

So let us walk you through the ordering process. The first thing you’ll want to know is where to place your order. Walk past the kitchen, and place your order at the bar in the back of the restaurant. The menu is prominently on display for all to see. Take your drinks with you to your table and take a seat on the back patio or in the dining room in the front of the restaurant. Soon after, your food will arrive at your table. One bite and you’ll be sold.

The unique thing about the food is that it is Mexi-Q, which is a combination of your traditional Texas barbecue and Tex-Mex barbecue. The owner of the restaurant didn’t create the name but he has obviously run with the concept.

Getting the Flavor Just Right

It is obvious from the bar on the brisket that this meat spent a lot of time on the smoker. The oak smoked turkey breast is a mouth-watering, juicy piece of meat. The pork ribs are perfectly seasoned with a sweet tea glaze reduction and the smoky pit flavor. There is definitely something unexpected in every dish they offer. The side dishes are a mix of the traditional Mexican foods, such as rice and beans with something as simple as white bread. However, if you want to keep it Mexican, you can opt for a corn tortilla instead of white bread.

One thing is clear; they must be doing something right at King’s Hwy Brew & Q because the customer’s keep on rolling in.
